Author’s Insight
Tashkent holds a special place in the memory behind KPOP82.
Years ago, during a visit to Uzbekistan, one of this project’s creators entered a bazaar outside the capital and met an elderly Korean woman selling traditional rice cakes.
When the purchase was complete, she quietly added a little extra.
A simple gift.
A familiar gesture of affection.
The Korean tradition of deom(덤)—giving more than the customer paid for.
In that instant, distance seemed to disappear.
History was no longer an abstract subject.
That memory belongs fully to another chapter—the future story of Koryoin, also known as Kareiskis.
Because Tashkent teaches us that culture does not survive only in monuments, official records, or textbooks.
Sometimes it survives in language.
In generosity.
And in one small gift placed gently into a stranger’s hands.
